PORT REYKJAVIK

Scaled down city or scaled up town – the choice is yours. Reykjavik is the political, business and cultural nucleus of the country.

Its fate was sealed back in the 9th century, when Viking settler Ingólfur Arnarson decided to call on a bit of  "Nordic God advice" and chose Reykjavík as his new home.

Ingólfur settled upon the name Reykjavik, or Smokey Bay, with reference to the steam he saw rising from the many geothermal springs found there.

With a unique rustic charm, slow pace and friendliness, Reykjavik is refreshingly called the ‘biggest little city in the world.’ It’s a buzzing and bustling place that can hold its own against much larger metropolitan areas.

Enjoy the brisk ocean air whilst exploring the old city's cobblestone streets lined with brightly coloured houses, its array of art galleries and impressive wealth of museums, coffee houses and pubs.
