This picturesque port, despite being small, bustles with lots of activity. The main town area is within walking distance from the cruise ship berths. HOWEVER, please note that one needs to negotiate a steep wooden staircase to reach both the main lunch venue and the Whale Centre.
There is a side road that leads there from the port, but it does involve a detour of perhaps up to 15 minutes (if we take into consideration the subsequent and rather strenuous “uphill push” if wheelchairs are involved).
Shore excursions from this port include: • Whale watching safari express • Many “port to port” combination opportunities (Akureyri) • Mývatn and surroundings • The magnificent Dettifoss Falls • Wonderful hiking at Ásbyrgi Canyon
