Djúpivogur has a good natural harbour and has many pearls of nature. The town is small, and physically challenged guests are encouraged to participate in an organized shore excursion in order to get the best of what this spectacular region has to offer.
A good location in relation to the glacier, which covers a whopping expanse of 8,400 km2, making it the largest in Europe.
Eskimos offer full-day excursions onto the glacier with optional snowmobiling /snowcat tours.
• The now world famous glacier lagoon at Jökulsálón (the
location for the car chase scene in the James Bond film “Die
Another Day”) provides opportunities for unforgettable boat
trips amongst imposing calving icebergs
• Visits to the tiny island of Papey (2 km2) with the smallest
church imaginable
