Despite being only 100km from the Arctic Circle, Akureyri actually enjoys some of best weather in Iceland. With such gems as Lake Mývatn and its impressive surroundings nearby, Akureyri provides an excellent shore excursion base.
The town itself is small and easily explored on foot and is without a doubt one of the most interesting and beautiful towns in Iceland.
Physically challenged guests might find the steep hill up to the church/swimming pool/botanical gardens rather difficult to negotiate due to its steep incline.
Eskimos offer an exciting and informative range of shore excursions from this port.
• Special interest tours including marine mammal/birdwatching, geology and volcanology • Spa experiences at the wonderful Mývatn Nature baths • Flightseeing opportunities over the spectacular surroundings of Akureyri • Classic coach tours to Goðafoss Falls, Lake Mývatn and surroundings with its exotic lunar landscape of boiling mud pools and hissing steam vents • Cultural tours offering traditional foods and educational experiences • Whale watching safaris • Port to port opportunities • Overland tours • Arctic flight to the island of Grímsey
